Hunter S. Thompson

Hunter S. Thompson (1937-2005) was an American journalist and author who founded gonzo journalism, a form of "reporting" that tells it as it is, often centred around the journalist's own crazy behaviour and with no concern for social norms.

Thompson has written three books which can loosely be defined as travel-related, two of which have been made into motion pictures where Johnny Depp plays Thompson. The character Duke out of the comic strip Doonesbury is also based on Thompson.

The Gonzo Foundation has a website that promotes literature, journalism and political activism through the legacy of Hunter S. Thompson, that was founded by his wife, and which is available at www.thegonzofoundation.org.
